Philip was born Raito Sonozaki, into the prestigious Sonozaki family. Unfortunately, when he was only four years old, he fell into a well that connected the surface of the Earth to the pure Gaia Memory, the gestalt of all the memories of the Earth. He was immediately reborn as a creature of pure data, an avatar of the Gaia Memory. His father, Ryubee Sonozaki, leader of an organization called The Museum, which sought to refine the Gaia Memories for personal gain, had his memories wiped and began to use him to create refined Gaia Memories, USB stick-like items that allow humans to access a particular aspect of the Earth's memory. Without some protection, the power of these items overpower people and turn them into monsters called Dopants. Ryubee and his daughters, Wakana and Saeko, attempted to collect resources to enact a plan, called the Gaia Impact, that would merge humanity with the memory of the Earth to ensure that we would never go extinct.

After Shotaro and his mentor Soukichi Narumi rescue him at the behest of the mysterious Shroud (who is actually his estranged mother, and whose mission cost Narumi his life) he and Shotaro team up to use Gaia Memories to fight Dopants and to try to stop the distribution of these memories and the Gaia Impact. Through his struggles to come to terms with his humanity, he rediscovers his connection to the Sonozaki family, and tries to right the wrongs that his father is attempting to do in his fear for the future. In the end, it costs him his life. His data body becomes unstable after his father's foiled attempt to enact the Gaia Impact, and he finds that he will die the next time he and Shotaro transform. Though he wants to stay with Shotaro and Akiko and the rest of his found family, nothing can be done, and he goes quietly into death.

However, when his last remaining relative, his sister Wakana, realizes that he's died, she uses her own connection to the Earth to relinquish her body for his use, and allow him to be the only living Sonozaki. He meets his family as part of it for the first and last time, and is allowed to say farewell. He remains in stasis in the birdlike Extreme Memory for a year, watching over Shotaro while his body regenerates. They are reunited at the end of the series, and promise to protect the city together. After the series, they continue to fight together as Kamen Rider W.

Reincarnated History: Lucas was also born into privilege. His mother is a well known museum curator, and his father is a politician, part of basically a dynasty of politicians. Lucas has two older sisters, both of whom are much less disappointing to his father than his only son. Lucas was something of an accident, though a happy one, since his father always wanted a son. However, Lucas' father is a family values republican, and as his son grew it became more and more apparent that he was gay. His father made it clear through word and deed that he disapproved.

Lucas grew up with a near constant inferiority complex and fear that his father was not proud of him, but without the ability to confront the situation head-on. It forged him into a young man with an uncanny politician's ability to put on a pleasing facade. That, plus the strange eidetic memory that manifested itself in him as a child, has made him into one of the most popular people at Locke City Academy. He is familiar and friendly with everyone, but doesn't really show the self-conscious young man he really is inside.

As he became a teenager, despite his father's disapproval, he embraced his sexual identity and got involved in a shady group of people. He goes to college parties and drinks and gets high, gets involved with college guys and periodically seduces closet cases from school, and generally is a complete hot mess. He's had a few close calls, things that get back to his mom but not his dad, communication breakdowns between him and the people who are supposed to be hiding his partying ways from his parents, but so far nothing spectacular or arrestable has happened to him. As long as his dad doesn't know, and the media doesn't know, as far as he's concerned it never happened.

His life is a balancing act that is getting increasingly shaky as time goes on. Despite his intelligence, he can only keep it up for so long.

First Echo: On a school trip at age 8 to Sterling Hill Mining Museum, he nearly fell into a mineshaft. He was caught by his mother, but not fast enough to stop him from recovering his previous personality's eidetic memory. The numbers were stuck in his head, but as much as he wrote them, the network didn't exist yet.

Preincarnation Personality: Philip was raised more as a tool than as a person, after the age of 3. So for a long time, he had no real understanding of interpersonal communication. He understood academically that other people had feelings and that they could react to his bluntness badly, but he had no real comprehension of how to avoid that, so he rarely tried. He's aware that he is off-putting, and sometimes refers to himself as a demon, but until he starts to live with Shotaro at the Narumi Detective Agency, he doesn't make much effort to change himself.

However, after he finally warms to his found family, he begins to see things a bit less selfishly. He slowly starts to realize that the kind of self-interest he's seen in the facility he lived in is damaging to the real world, and slowly begins to act more in the benefit of the world at large. He sees through the various cases he solves with Shotaro the kind of damage that selfishness and misused Gaia Memories can do, and takes on the responsibility of fixing it.

He gets very easily wrapped up in minor details that interest him, going so far as to become obsessed with individual topics and researching everything he can about them. He uses writing as a way to manage his thought processes, leading to writing all over walls and floors when the whiteboard he normally uses isn't enough. This habit can be troublesome for him and others. For instance, he has been known to become so obsessed with an individual kind of foodstuff that he will try to get access to any known type and try all of them, and will go on long jags of only using his personal research time to look into those things. This habit is worse when he doesn't have Shotaro around to ground him.

His relationship with Shotaro is the most important one in his life, Shotaro is the one who taught him how to be human, more or less, and he is endlessly grateful for that. The two of them share a strong bond that even his death couldn't lessen. Despite Shotaro's (many) foibles, he finds the man endlessly interesting to study and essentially wants to stay with him for the rest of his life. (They're in love) (totally)

Any differences: Lucas is different in a lot of ways from Philip, most importantly in that he has grown up with a supportive family and was taught to share and pay attention to others long before his teen years. As much as he struggles with his family life now that he's a teen, he was definitely well-loved and spoiled as he grew up. His problem is less lack of interpersonal empathy and more regular old teenaged selfishness and disinterest in looking into the consequences of his actions. He's actually incredibly good at interacting with others, due to his eidetic memory and politician family upbringing. He's very charming, though he often doesn't feel the put-on charm he expresses.

Instead of going through phases of being obsessed over acquiring all of the knowledge about an individual topic, Lucas tends to go through more social-butterfly phases of being involved with things. He's been on a few sports teams, but he loses interest fairly quickly. He joins after-school clubs and drops them after half a term. His longest running and most recent hobby is breakdancing, he met up with a group that practices near the city library and has spent the last year or so hanging around with them and their friends. That's also how he fell into a college-age group of friends who drink and smoke pot, both of which he also now does.

As part and parcel of his ability to be social now as opposed to in his past life, Lucas has difficulty being close to people. He's able to put on the casual, superficial levels of social interaction that are demanded of any young person, but he has no real close friends. This is partly because he fears that becoming close to people would lead them to realize that he is fundamentally lacking in some important way. He wants to be loved, but he is afraid that he is without substance, a human being who means nothing and will accomplish nothing. He feels dwarfed by the accomplishments of his parents and older sisters, and fears graduating high school and having to go on to college. His identity is built around parts of him that he can't go public on, like his sexuality, which sort of shackles him personally and makes him feel paranoid and insecure.

Abilities: Due to an accident when he was a child, Philip has access to all of the information in the vast stores of the Earth's knowledge. This can be something as simple as all of the details on a particular foodstuff, as well as something as complicated and specific as where a certain person lives. The only limit to his ability to access this information is which keywords he uses to look it up, which is actually surprisingly limiting when it comes to looking up specific information. The breadth of his access to this knowledge is a weakness in and of itself.

His exposure to the Library has afforded him certain ongoing abilities, such as knowledge of all his Earth's languages and a wealth of knowledge in a number of strange and obscure fields. He is able to remember all salient information about each of the gaia memories, which he was instrumental in the development of. List of Gaia Memories In other words, his ability to access the knowledge isn't limited to what he can look up and read in the blank book he uses to access the library, but it is limited by the standards of basic knowledge when it comes to general topics. He may know generally what a totem pole or faience pottery is, but he would not know specifics without looking it up. Essentially, he's the human version of Wikipedia.

He also owns three specific Gaia Memories of his own, Cyclone, Heat, and Luna. The transformation into Kamen Rider W usually uses Shotaro's body, being as it is stronger, however the semi-sentient Fang memory follows him around and allows him to transform using his own body when he is in mortal danger. Shotaro's memories, Joker, Metal, and Trigger, make up the other half of Kamen Rider W.

All the Kamen Rider W forms.
